PA State Parks will be offering two upcoming adaptive recreation events that members of your group may be interested in. I have provided the details for these events below. Please let me know if there is a better way to share this information with your group.
The first event is Adaptive Kayaking and Biking demos at Point State Park on Saturday, May 21 as part of the Venture Outdoors Festival. The demos will take place from 12:00 - 6:00 pm. Anyone interested in kayaking is welcome to meet us at the accessible dock launch on the Allegheny River side of Point State Park. Anyone interested in biking can meet us at our PA State Park booth on the city side lawn.
The second event is Kayaking 101: Flatwater to Whitewater. This event is from Saturday, June 4—Sunday, June 5, 2016. Ohiopyle and Laurel Hill State Parks in partnership with Team River Runner will host this two-day, one night kayaking adventure. Participants will experience the beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife of the Laurel Highlands. The first day, participants spend the afternoon kayaking on Laurel Hill Lake at Laurel Hill State Park where they learn and practice their paddle strokes and skills, as well as wet-exits and rescue techniques. That evening, participants spend the night camping in the Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park. The second day, participants get an introduction to moving water kayaking on the Youghiogheny River. Participants will paddle down the nine-mile section of the Middle Yough with Class I and II rapids. This experience is designed for people over the age of 9. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. This weekend of paddling is geared toward service members of all ability levels, civilians with disabilities, and their families. The cost is free with all meals, equipment and accommodations being provided. Registration for the June 4-5 program is required by May 27, 2016 by contacting me at 724-865-9473 or email email@example.com. Participation will be limited to fifteen people, so early registration is encouraged.
