Volunteering

Volunteers assist our program coordinators empower people with disabilities,
their families and friends with opportunities to engage in life changing experiences
.
To maintain compliance with Move United policies and the PA Child Protective Services Law, all adult TRAS volunteers (18 and older) are required to complete a State Police Criminal Record Check and a PA Child Abuse History Clearance once every 5 years. For those individuals who have not resided in PA continuously for the previous 10 years they must also complete an FBI Criminal Background Check.
We ask all volunteers to review our handbook which defines prohibited conduct and attest that they agree with TRAS’s policies and procedures.

Please complete the following form. You have the option to start it then return as you complete each requirement.

Note for Non-resident Volunteers

" A non-resident who will be serving as a volunteer in PA for no more than 30 days in a calendar year is not required to obtain the PA Child Abuse, PSP, and DHS FBI, however, must be in compliance with the clearance standards of the state they live and provide documentation of their clearances to the volunteer agency/ organization. If the non-resident will be volunteering for more than 30 days in a calendar year, they must obtain the PA Child Abuse, PSP, and DHS FBI."

ZERO TOLERANCE

Three Rivers Adaptive Sports is committed to maintaining a substance free "zero tolerance" policy at all events. A zero-tolerance policy bans the use, possession, and impairment from alcohol and illegal drugs. A zero-tolerance policy aims to create a safer environment by minimizing the risks associated with substance use, such as accidents, injuries, and overdoses. This means that any use of drugs or alcohol is prohibited, and violations will result in consequences, such as expulsion from the event, potential legal repercussions, and other penalties. This policy aims to respect privacy and legal rights while ensuring a safe environment for everyone in attendance

Sports Protection Policy

Three Rivers Adaptive Sports (TRAS) has adopted the following Sport Protection policies as they relate specifically to TRAS-controlled activities and events, and facilities under TRAS’s jurisdiction (to mean facilities owned and controlled by TRAS.

Engaging in sport should be an opportunity for all athletes to have fun and spend time with friends. Sport also encourages a healthy lifestyle, and builds self-confidence. Athletes often do better off the field than those who do not participate in sport. They learn goal-setting, teamwork and time management skills. Athletes are less likely to use cigarettes, drugs and alcohol; they have higher graduation rates and are more likely to attend college.
Unfortunately, sport can also be a high-risk environment for misconduct, including athlete physical and sexual abuse.

All forms of misconduct are intolerable and in direct conflict with the ideals of Three Rivers Adaptive Sports.  Misconduct may damage an athlete’s psychological well-being; athletes who have been mistreated experience social embarrassment, emotional turmoil, psychological scars, loss of self-esteem and negative impacts on family, friends and the sport. Misconduct often hurts an athlete’s performance and may cause him or her to drop out of sport entirely.

TRAS is committed to improving the development and safety of athletes and participants involved in the community we serve. TRAS publishes this Handbook as a resource to guide TRAS’s development, implementation and internal review of effective athlete safety and misconduct prevention strategies.

ALL volunteers must confirm their review of this document.
